Carl Winston started painting at the Dominica Grammar School and at the age of nineteen was already being published in the Caribbean Islander magazine. His work is linked to the surrealist movement and spurred other painters as Paul Toulon and Arnold Toulon. After some ten or more years absence he made a triumphant return with his intricate and elaborate wood relief carving depicting Dominica Folk Traditions and the environment. His carvings received worldwide acclaim and it is described as where the East meets the West. |
